Songs of miners, mutiny and murder; starvation, sirens and smugglers, that's what you get when you leave this bunch of Cornish renegades alone with a load of wood, strings and drum skins for too long!! Du Glas offer their own brand of original roots music, combining influences from Americana and British folk-rock (and whatever else takes their fancy at the time). Their energy, humour and love of gin has incited such madness that audiences have thrown away their pints, danced in a downpour and bounced on the bar like a Bruckheimer film (you know the one we mean) You'd be a fool to miss it!!

It all began for Du Glas (Cornish for ‘black’ and ‘blue’) in 2016 when Lucy Osborne (lead siren + mando magician) and Anthony Power (bard and guitar basher) began their musical adventure at open mic nights in West Cornwall. Lucy’s theatrical background and Anthony’s timeless melodies ensured that the duo captured audiences’ hearts with their emotional and dynamic performances. They have since teamed up with local talent Kevin Cook on drums, Phil Power on bass and the sweet sounds of Lou Peixinha on flute and violin. Together this spirited group mold their different musical tastes to create a diverse set of folk rock.

 

In December 2018 Du Glas released their debut album ‘Too Many Ghosts’ which led them to play music festivals across the West Country including Cornwall Folk Festival and the main stage at Wonder Fields, Exeter. The year 2020 (and the big C) may have anchored them but it did not get them down as the band kept themselves sane(ish) with online appearances and recording their second album 'The Edge of the World' including ‘I Can Buddy’ which was described by The Mail on Sunday as an ‘anthem of the fierce Cornish women’.

 

Since then the band have been rocking their way across the country including Beautiful Days, Chickenstock in Kent and Wimborne Folk Festival. They haven't neglected their homeland either, wowing crowds (if leaving them slightly shell shocked) at the Cornwall Folk Festival, the St Ives September Festival, Penlee Park Open Air Theatre and the Acorn Theatre.

 

Du Glas are now busy writing material and recording for a third album and looking forward to hitting the road again to inflict the rest of the UK with their fierce attitude, thumping rhythms and rousing tunes that will make you lose all your inhibitions, roar till your throats sore and leave you talking like a pirate for the rest of the night.

'Du Glas came and played for us on the FAR Stage at Cornwall Folk Festival. They had played for us the previous Festival in 2019 and we were eager to have them back.

What a great decision that was. The energy, look, musicianship, choice of material and audience communication was immense. The quality of performance was outstanding, successfully encouraging the audience to get involved, (it was impossible not to).
